Yes, it's that time of year again, when it's a good thing to go against the grain!

I read through the list and I am sad to say that there are a number of books on the banned/challenged list that I have not yet read. Surprisingly, a number of the books I have read off of the list, I didn't read until college. "The Bluest Eye" by Toni Morrison is a great book, but I didn't read it until I was at least 20. Heck, I'm not even sure I knew who Toni Morrison was until I got to college, let alone read her work. And there are a ton of other great novels out there that should remain out there.

So do your part and visit your local library and read a banned book today!

What a perfectly, wonderful, rainy day to lay in bed and read a good book. If you don't have one, for shame! Go to good reads.com and find a book.

Grandma D was in the hospital last week for brain surgery. She had a cyst behind her left ear that put pressure on her brain and nerves. So, it looked like Grandma was a drunk half the time since she staggered to and fro. And she also lost the hearing in her left ear. I hope that this surgery did the trick and she is up and better soon. And thankfully she has short hair, since they had to shave a large patch for the surgery.

Here is the absolute amazing thing. She went in for surgery Wednesday morning and left the hospital Sunday late afternoon. And this is with brain surgery! It is amazing what they can do now a days in such a small amount of time.

I'm just about on my soapbox with banned or challenged books. I've added a new link to the American Library Association's website on books that are challenged. So, be a rebel and read a challenged book.... or you may already have, if you've read a Judy Blume book or the Harry Potter series. However, alot of the titles suggest to me that they explain the birds and the bees... like What's Happening to my Body? Book for Girls: A Growing-up Guide for Parents and Daughters by Lynda Madaras (she also has the same title, except for boys, that is on the list also). My favorite author, Isabel Allende, is also on the list for her Pultizer winning (I think it's a Pultizer, but it could be some other prize) book The House of Spirits.

So, visit your library today and see which banned books you can read and demand all 100!
